At 4.4 lbs, the Japanese Chin dogs are about half the size of a domestic cat, therefore, maintaining body heat is their primary concern.  Don't expect them to go out if it means getting their paws wet, as they won't have any part of it.  Checking cautiously from my front door, my Japanese Chins quickly turn and run at any sign of moisture, which includes the morning dew!
